It may not be a very interesting subject to talk about. But it is easiily one of the most important subject to talk about. The global slowdown is affecting everyone. And in my opinion, this is the first time in the history that we are facing a situation like this. Now, you may say that we have seen worst times. Like for example the great depression in the USA in 1920’s. But wait. There is a ddifference. Remeber? its always called the great depression of USA. The point is, earlier, the economies were not so interdepedent. Boundaries of the nations were important even for trade and commerce. Most countries were isolated from others and thats why there was a “disconnect” between the economies. Look at where we are today. Geography is history. Its a one world for the business and boundaries of the nation are only politically important now. We completed the journey from many isolated economies to one global economy so fast that we never realised its effect on the world especially when a large economy goes for a toss. And here we are. The US is facing a financial crisis and the world is having to pay for it. Thats why I am of the opinion that we are facing this kind of a situation for the first time in the history.
Everyone keeps asking me these days as to how this will effect them. Even my grocer is not an exception. But because my profession is to guide students wanting to study globally, I am going to write about waht, in my opinion, will be the impact of this slow down on the student community and more importantly what should be the strategy for planning a career in such times.
